The odds of winning the lottery are 14 million to 1

Lottery Ticket

It’s a great topic of conversation, and one I’m sure we’ve all on boozy nights at the pub: “What would you do if you won the National Lottery?” “It could be you” is the selling phrase and yes, it could be you but the odds of it actually being you are 14,000,000 to 1 (well actually 13,983,816 to 1 but let’s not quibble over the 16,184 - you’re still pretty unlikely to win the big one). Even the odds of winning the minimum prize of £10 are 57 to 1. That means you’d need to spend £57 to have a good chance of winning £10 in a draw… That’s not great is it? Read more »

Saving yourself money on Home Insurance

colourful-houses

So you’ve just received your Home Insurance Renewal and it seems quite expensive - what do you do? Stick with your current insurer, because they seem like a nice bunch, or try to find a cheaper quote. Well, I’m hoping you’ve opted for the latter? If so, then read on and I’ll tell you how to get your insurance premium down and save yourself a whole heap of money that’ll come in useful when your water boiler packs up!!

I’ve just had another person ask me how they can get it cheaper so rather than just tell him I thought I’d tell the world so you can all, hopefully, benefit. Read more »

How to reduce your mobile phone bill

mobile-phones1

We’ve all got one but how much are you spending on your phone bill each month? I’m sure thousands of you are spending way too much on your phone bill so I’ll try to put a stop to that right now. Read on…

There’s a few things to note before we begin:

  1. Don’t be fooled into thinking that Pay as you Go (PAYG) deals are cheaper than Pay Monthly. Yes, if you only use your phone for emergencies then you’re probably best sticking with PAYG but most of us will benefit by switching.
  2. Do you really need a new mobile phone? If you’re happy with your current phone then why not stick with it and either go with a SIM only deal (where you’re on a 30 day rolling contract and you don’t receive a new phone but you’ll still receive inclusive minutes and texts each month) or if you find a better deal that includes a new phone then sell that phone on eBay, saving yourself even more money over the course of your contract.
  3. Are you still in contract with your current provider? If so, give them a call and ask them how much it would cost to buy yourself out of your contract - it can still be cheaper to do this and get a new contract rather than sticking with them - remember to factor this in though when doing your calculations.
  4. Are there any networks you can’t use - most offer decent enough reception, wherever you live, but if you’re out in the sticks then remember to check their website for the quality of reception where you live. Most companies offer a 14 day money back guarantee for situations like this but check before you buy.

Welcome aboard!

Over the coming days, weeks and months I’ll be sharing some useful tips, advising you on different things and generally helping in any way I know how. Topics will vary and will include such things as “how to save money on your mobile phone bill” to “how to keep your Mac in tip-top condition” through to “what the the best toy is for your dog”. Yes, it will vary that much so I’m hoping, in time, there’ll be a bit of something for everyone.

If you can think of anything that you’d like me to look at or look in to then please get in touch and I’ll see what I can do - I’m not promising that I’ll be able to respond to every single question but I’ll do my best.

Also, to help Dare to Share become the Number One site for tips, advice, help and information then please participate by posting comments and letting me know what you think. I’ll be moderating the blog, just to make sure no sweary language is used or any spammers decide to lure you into purchasing Viagra or getting a Penis Enlargement but apart from that I’ll let most stuff in as I really want to build up a community that comes back for more.
